Marathi Beach

Marathi beach is a popular resort of Chania area and is located on the southeast coast of Akrotiri peninsula, just 17km from the city of Chania. It has two beaches with shallow and calm blue waters, fine sand very well protected from the winds due to their orientation. Both beaches are sandy, well organized with all necessary amenities such as sun beds and umbrellas.

The beaches are separated from a pier which also serves as a harbor for fishing boats and small ferries.

Marathi is the ideal beach for families with young children as well as elderly people. The visitors will also find taverns and cafes by the sea where they can enjoy the delicacies of the Cretan cuisine.

Loutraki Beach

The seaside resort of Loutraki is located 16km east of Chania city, and it is a very nice quiet beach with fine sand and clear shallow waters. Safe and protected from the wind, it is especially suitable for families with children but on weekends you will see couples and friends going there to enjoy its waters.

The lawn beach of Loutraki has been developed and is well organized providing all the common touristic amenities and facilities including a beach bar. You can rent umbrellas, eat in the taverns of the area, rent rooms and enjoy various water sports.

Next to the beach there is a large parking area with huge eucalyptus trees, which offer generously their shadow on hot summer days.

Stavros

Stavros (Greek word for cross) is a seaside village located 17km northeast of Chania area, at the northernmost edge of Akrotiri peninsula. The area became famous since 1964 when scenes for the Oscar-winning movie “Zorba the Greek” with Anthony Quinn were filmed there.

It has two beautiful beaches which have contributed to the development of the area. The main beach is located east of the village next to the picturesque harbor, fully protected by winds blowing in the region. It has white sand and shallow turquoise waters making it a unique and ideal place for swimming.

Being a small village, in Stavros the visitors will find many more options than just beach amenities, such as accommodation, taverns, mini markets, shops and cafes.

Opposite the beach is a very steep camel-shaped mountain making a contrast with the peaceful beach of white sand and shallow turquoise waters. It is a unique and ideal place for swimming.

Kalathas

The seaside village of Kalathas is located 12km northeast of Chania, in a naturally formed bay at the Akrotiri peninsula. Kalathas at its current state, is a relatively new village which has been inhabited by residents of Chania wishing to live far from the city center.

The beach in Kalathas is beautiful, open to the north winds and with fine sand and shallow crystal clear waters. It is very well organized with umbrellas, water sports, lifeguard, mini markets, restaurants and hotels.
Opposite the beach in a very close distance and easily reached by swimming, there is a small island.

For those who avoid crowded places, there is a secluded not organized sandy bay at the west beyond the rocky end of the main beach.
